I tried running windows on Samsung Dex using Note 9through a virtual desktop app called Splashtop. It was a rewarding experience using my favorite PC creative applications such as Adobe Premiere Pro, Photoshop, Illustrator, Dreamweaver, After Effects and even Paint Tool SAI on my Note 9. I even tried running steam on there as well and played one of my favorite PvP game called Skull Girls.
Splashtop has been the best app to use for the remote desktop on the Samsung Galaxy Note 9, all the other app that I tried and research that worked on Dex on other Samsung phones like the S9/S9+ did not work for me on the note 9. Team viewer wasn’t working at the time of this review and video. Microsoft remote client would not run on dex either.
Splashtop ran effortlessly, zero latency, I could even go full-screen mode. which made for a better more interactive user experience of switching back and forth from using Samsung Dex’s version of Android to using windows 10 all in one monitor. That worked out perfectly for my workflow as my computer is a Wacom Cintiq Companion one, that simply wouldn’t connect to my monitor.
My favorite aspect of this whole experience was running premiere pro on the Samsung Galaxy Note 9, with all the keyboard shortcuts working perfectly. Yes, most of that power is not completely from the note 9 but from my remote PC, yes, but still a great experience for me as tech enthusiast to see just how far technology has come. If Samsung can replicate the desktop experience on DeX than in a couple year this will soon be possible.
It’s all in software, that is my hope and reach through these fun tech video’s where sometimes I’m not always reviewing things but exploring the reach of technology. It’s really a dream come true to being one step closer to owning just one device to do all of my work. This future is not here yet but definitely possible if many tech companies push it enough and so far Samsung has been pushing that with the Samsung galaxy note 9 so far.
I do tons of coverage on the note 9 for that reason, it already has replaced my Cintiq as my main preferred drawing tool, even for rendered illustrations because of the flexibility of being able to draw anywhere, rain or shine. It is my hope that the software catches up because the technology is already here. I already come home almost every night, plug in my note 9 into my monitor, use a Bluetooth keyboard to do my light everyday task such as email, online homework and for entertainment based.
